This assignment required us to plan and host our own exhibition. We hosted Lost and Found over one weekend on Cuba Street, with an awesome opening night on the Friday evening. We collected pre-loved fabric donations from various sources to create four characters for the centre of our exhibition. Additionally we utilised a small room off to the side of the main space to showcase our own otherwise wasted materials from throughout the project. We wanted people to feel inspired to go home and donate or create something new out of any lost items of their own!
My specific role was to help design and produce the marketing and visual communication side of our exhibition. This included contacting sponsors (I was lucky enough to get Pals to sponsor us!), making the posters, signage, opening night invites, the brochure, and posting content onto our instagram. The final branding and visual system created works really well cross-media and well reflects the theme of repurposing and giving things a new life. It’s bright, fun, colourful and also works well alongside short Tiktoks Madeline put together for us, which created even more interest in the event.

Dress Up Dolls is about the transformative power of repurposing discarded materials. By using donated excess materials from local sources, in combination with our illustrated characters, we created a set of crazy personas that have become the heart of our exhibition. Their forms are crafted from an assortment of draped, reclaimed fabrics - faded knits, vibrant satins, and well-worn cottons holding stories of past lives. The draped fabrics form elaborate outfits for each character, melting them down to the floor.
In a world where waste and excess have become the norm, we invite viewers to reimagine the potential of discarded items. By repurposing materials that might otherwise be forgotten, we aim to highlight the beauty and resilience in objects often deemed worthless. Inspiring a shift in perception, encouraging a more mindful approach to consumption and disposal. Dress Up Dolls is designed to inspire ways that you can creatively repurpose your own excess materials in an abstracted manner.
